Any ideas on how they maintain the image's orientation?

From memory there is an IR sensor that goes on the boom!

I have to say, when the great Tareq is doing slow figure 8s when flying a set of these, i wonder how distracting they are to the pilot. I mean they look absolutely spectacular.. but as every helipilot knows visibility of the disk does matter. Changing patterns on the disk could be distracting i imagine..... what do you think?

I wondered about that too, but I noticed all the flying was pretty high & relatively gentle for the changing patterns so it seemed that the heli orientation & position would be nicely predictable.
I wouldn't want to try any night smack with the changing patterns, it'd be pretty off putting.

I think it could be really challenging to get used to. I know i would be out of my depth if i tried flying night magic for real because even looking at the video I lost orientation. If they made a night sim to incorporate changing blade graphics, I think it could help quite a bit.

The blades max out at 1800 rpm. I don't think they are meant for smack.

I agree I think that with the changing patterns @Crash Heligod would surely visit me if I flew a set of these.

I assume you could control image and color change speed. Slowing things down to 1 or 2 changes per minute might reduce the disorientation and aid in flight time understanding.

They are able to draw picture, text and animation in range from 50 to 2000 RPM (revolutions per minute)
