So ok... Now we have seen some exceptional pilots using Mode 1! (Ducan Bossion) So maybe Mode1 is better for advanced maneuvers? Maybe Mode 1 is better all round? So what you think? Dont tell me - oh yes it depends on the pilot and for me if feels right bla bla bla... No. I want to know from a scientific viewpoint why mode 1 may be better than mode 2!

After 8 years of mode 2 I am sure I could not make the change! I know I can drive a right hand drive car, cause I have, though it was an automatic trans, a stick would be more of a challenge. And a full scale airplane and helicopter I have flown from both seats no issue there, but changing what the sticks do... I will try on the sim, but don't think it will go well!

Simon would you tell me what the mapping is, my sim doesn't have a easy click for mode 1 or mode 2?

I don't know how to swap either, I would stick to mode 2 if I were you, heck, we all enjoy your work, you can probably do without that extra inch....I'll be sticking with mode 1. You can't teach an old dumb dog new tricks (this is me I'm talking about now) .I think SmackTalkRC did an episode on mode 1 vs mode 2, might be worth the couple of dollars to have a look.
Take care @William, and I hope, one day I'll fly with you.

Gotcha, I am just getting back into the sim, I have RF6.5, I got a new laptop and made sure it had enough power to run 6.5! so I thought I would just flip a switch and give a try, no such luck:rolleyes:

I run RF 6.5 as well, neat program. We will just stick with our respective modes. I think it's all BS anyway, it's swings and roundabouts, some tricks easier on one, some on the other, look at Dunkan Bossian (FM he is great, lot's of sensational mode 2's as well). I know I'll always be somewhere in the mediocrity - regardless of mode - but I enjoy my flying, and at the end of the day, that's all that matters.

I wonder however if some people naturally find mode 1 easier than mode 2 and vice versa. IE maybe it has something to do with how our brains are wired. On the extreme level, both Mode 1 and Mode 2 pilots are equally as competent.

I think that it is that way, I started mode 1 as that is all my lhs had in stock, I then smashed that heli bought another one a year or so later mode 2 couldn't fly it, my brother however could never fly my mode 1 heli and as soon as he grabbed the mode 2 heli he flew fine. I think its just programmed into us what we will fly

So does that mean we have Mode 1 and Mode 2 personalities?

Yeah, I guess you could say that :)

Ive heard of people who flew mode 1 switched to mode 2 for simplicity of maneuvers but have said that if they had spent the time it took them to change they would have progressed more than they had after the change! So I suppose yes, we are coded that way but the coding can be changed, but in then end isnt probably worth it

So what would describe a mode 1 compared to a mode 2 personality. Then what would describe a mode 3 or 4 personality..
