Another 2S low head speed test...
Based on camera frame rate of 30fps x 60 seconds = 1800, speed at spool up showed no strobe effect just before lift-off (blades looked to be stationary), head speed was at 1800rpm- neutral pitch.
I still have good 2S packs around.... Why not use them.

 

Ah! Here's one I haven't thought about in awhile since the arrival of "The Protos".
I'll eventually get a fresh set of servos and a new 6-ch Rx, then rebuild the fly-bar head with all the nice blue-anodized aluminum parts I picked up for cheap. I like the way the thing flew, despite the fly-bar. It reminds me of flying a micro, but more stable and predictable..... as long as the servos are good.

 

Here's thinking about fitting Trex type aluminum blade grips to the flybar head of the B450. What's the catch.... fitting the mixing arms to the control horns?.... bearing diameters? Feathering shaft length?...... I'm thinking I can make it work. The original CX450 Trex clone grips I have left-over are still serviceable, and are doing nothing at the moment.
New tail boom and tail case on hand, the tail will be rebuilt, but since I will be using this bird for lower rpm headspeeds, I will probably install the so-labeled "speed-up" tail drive gear/pulley so the tail can keep up. This setup will be geared toward that of a Bell 204, and will be used for "lifting experiments".

 

I had one of these. Great memories. Not sure about the aluminium blade grips however. You have a nice test field there - looks like the truck has claimed a few helis....lol.

 

If you are referring to the lot around our shop, I've often accused @Crash Heligod of taking up residence in said "semi-trailer"..... I have documented this phenomenon, in past posts. The one embarrassing moment was the one where a spectator said- "can you land it on that trailer?" ....... and I tried, only to get too far toward the rear side and got caught-up in a tree limb. Don't make me re-publish the moment.
.........orherwise, there's an odd predictability in a 90deg. Flybar setup, both demonstrated by B450-3d and Mini-Protos flybar setup that I tried upon first receiving the Protos....... The more interesting part is making a K-Bar (Mini V-bar clone) work with a fly-bar head. I intend to duplicate the near "self-leveling" characteristics that I experienced last time I tried it...... with low cyclic gains at the FBL. Since I'm gearing the B450-3d to lifting capability, I.e., dropping water-balloon bombs or otherwise...... the added flexibility of cyclic gain versus flybar reaction could be an asset to what I intend to do...
