I have seen a few different tail setups in the past. So i am wondering what is the absolute best performing tail system out there.

The new Align tail system looks good.

There there is the Heneselit tail system

    Alees Rush 750

So are there any other unique designs you can think of and which system is the superior one?

My view, most times its the user setup that will make the biggest difference.

Mechanics wise its all simple, spinning shaft, slider move on spinning shaft.

The only time when a system is superior is when its components are machined to a high accuracy so to make a true runout on the shaft, a linear geometry for the lever, and a free moving slider.

So one would have to get out a dial indicator on the shaft, and measure the runout tolerance,

I think it all comes down to servo + gyro.

I dont know how many people do this, but on a bigger helicopter, tail rotor and blades should be balanced. Apparently a lot of problems come from an unbalanced tail blades and tail rotor.

Then there is making sure the correct hole is picked on the servo horn for the right geometry with gyro gain, free moving control rod etc.

The tail box on TSA Platinum helicopters is pretty impressive. It`s very beefy yet light weight and the gears are very tough. I have yet to replace a set of tail gears after a crash. The tail gears are pinned to the output shaft, so in the event that a gear is stripped...you can change it without having to replace the whole shaft. Another big plus is the same tail box is used on the 600s and 700s.

Nice, there are some interesting variations. I have had some tail sliders slightly bind at the extreme of travel. It was almost as if the arc of the pitch leaver would apply more stress at either end of the tail shaft. It looks like the vortex will adjust at either end of the pitch slider travel.

And its always an advantage to have the same tail used on multiple models @Geena . That is a very smart strategy and a big selling point...

The Alees Rush tail will fall under its own weight if built properly.

      @Jeff B knows what I mean

I never thought you were joking, it's funny because it's probably the only patch of cleanskin left.

      Best can be contested.

Exhibit A, The SAB Urukay three bladed tail.

Exhibit B, Quest helicopters also do the same

      qh0084s.jpg

      Exhibit C, JR Helicopters tail

      ito_007.jpg

Exhibit D, The Hirobo Turbulence D3 V2 tail

Some of the mentioned manufacturers have won F3C contests.

      I almost forgot

Exhibit E, The KDS Agile 5.5,

      I do agree.

My point was Gartt tail is cheap as dirt and works. It is almost direct copy of Align tail design. I use it with Align slider for piece of mind in my 800. For me it is the winner because it works and is not overpriced. My friend Benji decided to keep Chinese slider in his 800 and did not experience problems since January after reinforcing it with Loctite. This Loctite 638. This loctite is very strong. New chinese slider has thread. Older one did not have thread and Loctite was needed to keep it in one piece.

Not all clones are bad. But you have to know what you are doing...

If you ask me I woild confirm Align look and finish are far better. On the other hand you have endless threads complaining about famous Align 700 tail hum. Looks and finish are good to have. Tail performance is must have on my list. Do you catch my drift? Just check video above. Keep in mind this is 800 heli.

If it comes to innovation, I would give credit to SAB and quest for bringing out 3 bladed tails.

The KDS agile tail gears look like they are helical, again this is something new.

I don't know if there is any improvement with these features, but you have to give both KDS and SAB credit for giving us something new to play with.
