Actually i look forward to this! I have the RF controller and did not mind the sim at all. Probably the two most used sims for me have been RF and neXt .

      http://store.steampowered.com/app/748460/RealFlight_8/

I noticed the digital version is available for download for $99 USD, so it can't be any more than that. Also sometimes steam offers introductory special prices for new games which are usually cheap for the first couple of weeks then the full price kicks in. Kind of like what happened to Accurc on Steam.

So far my sim collection is Next and Accurc on Steam, both great simulators, I will be buying this realflight 8 when it's released on March 22.

I`m not really feeling Real flight 8. I`m sure it`s as good or even better than 7.5, and all. But I just don`t like the idea of having to log onto a gaming site, just to use my simulator. If you get it, keep us posted as to how well it works going through steam. I am actually kinda curious about you folks think about it.

Yeah i totally understand you Geena, it took me awhile to accept steam. After a couple of games, I got use to it. But the first step is always the hardest. Most people that use Steam have a decent if not the latest hardware. I think smack has the 1080TI, I have the 1080.

I think the RF8 on Steam will have VR support among other goodies??? If you got good eyes VR might be for you??? Smack seems eager on VR

      I'll keep you posted

There are benefits to steam. Accessibility.

Traditionally you could only buy a sim in a local shop, provided they have it in stock.

Now you get it straight away no matter where you are.

Also, lets say your computer goes bang, you lose your install media, and you have to do a reinstall, its no longer a problem.

I actually think this will work out well.. I have been enjoying the stream integrations as accurc had a dodgy dongle and I could never use it.. Or return it.. I eventually pushed when it went steam and they gave me the code.. Now I just use the same dongle as for next.. And seeing my real flight dongle is starting to play up.. This could be good...

I'm well used to steam.. It's pretty much always running on my system..

I run steam as well (of course @Manyc). The main advantages are simple deployment (once you know steam) updates and convenience of cloud storage. Probably the main disadvantage would be loading steam "just" for real flight (if you don't own any other steam software) and not having the ability to sell the software. But my overall experience with steam has been a good one thus far...

Yep i do have the 1080ti - what a piece of hardware! I want to upgrade my main cpu to a 8-10 core intel (i know amd is right up there - but) and a couple of terabyte of whatever is the fastest and most reliable storate medium when i buy - but i am waiting if there is a hardware solution to the specter and meltdown vulnerabilities - which is supposedly scheduled to be implemented late this year.

VR is another experience altogether. I only have the gearvr so not really for games as such - i was just checking it out. But i can say without reservation i believe the day that they make the head piece better - ie unrestrained by cables - even higher res and simple to use - will be the day they become more mainstream. Eventually there will be a variant that will replace the existing tech (augmented reality?) and that is going to be an exciting time.

Imagine walking up to a flying field - picking a virtual heli and having the simulated heli appear in front of you digitally in 3d. It could be headed that way - eg

      Epson Moverio BT-300FPV Drone Edition

So i think i will buy realflight 8 when it comes out..

Yeah that's what I'm waiting for higher resolutions on VR. By the time that happens, I'll probably have a 2080TI :p

Well... bit of a disappointment - i did not try the VR - just the usual airports and helis - it felt very similar to the earlier versions. If you dont intent to used VR then the 2d stuff might be much of the same. But RF does this quite well so for a new purchase it would definitely be worth it. I could not really pick anything glaring with the graphics. The VR stuff would be the biggest draw card if you were to invest over older versions of RF.
