What are your opinions on the new Trex 550L Dominator (other than the Fugly canopy)?

I ordered it, but always seem to look for its flaws after I do so LoL

Seems like a great heli though

Tons redesigned... im dying to try out the Gpro FBL unit--heard great things about it and saw it put though its paces by Alan Szabo Jr. Looks darn good....but, then again he can fly a toilet paper roll on a curling iron and make it look good so IDK ha

Note the GPRO iS NOT POLARITY PROTECTED!!!!!!!!

Really?? All this technology and they couldnt integrate polarization protection?? Silly Align. It's cool, I always triple check my connections before applying any kind of power, regardless...

      Thanks for the heads up!

What else have you heard about it, feral?

      Nothing as much mate.

One dude here in Aus has blown 3 Gpros up.

The 815 servos are awesome I have them in my 800.

The 730mx is ok but I dropped a Xnova 4025 830kv into my 550pro it draws less amps and makes more power.
Runs beautiful of the Talon 90 esc

      3 Gpros fried? Err.. dang.

Xnova.... Never heard of that manufacturer. Ill have to look into that.

      Thanks mate

Edit: Wow, cant believe I havent heard of these motors... They are 100% hand wound. Thats awesome--- probably explains why I cant find them in stock in the U.S.-- ANYWHERE!

been outta the game for a good 7 months...

I'd be keen to see if it can fit 2 x 6s packs for a 12s setup. The old 550 was an easy conversion to 12s.

That would be beast, but one of the top reasons I have it on 6S is for the simplicity of a single lipo. I'm sure it would be INSANE with 12S! But, it seems to be quite the task fitting two huge 6S lipos in that frame. All I have are 5000mah and 4800mah 6S lipos on hand right now

Even my older 550E was enough power for me, so I think i'll be fine with 6S... For now, that is.. ;)

There are motors out there for 6s that produce enough torque to put a 12s setup on show.

12s is where the grinners are at though you cant argue with doubling the voltage

Would the Xnova 4025 830kv be one of them? :)

I agree, I'm a 550 fanboy too, just love the simplicity of bringing out with a handful of 6s packs and flying, one battery per flight, no extra RX pack, makes it simple and cheap (and a ton of fun). Not expensive if @Crash Heligod pays you a visit either

Yeah a 550 rex is definitely a heli-beater as @3dmick and @simon quote. Its a good size helicopter that flies surprisingly well. Its simple, pretty robust and gives you a way to kill your old worn out 700 batteries.

The trex550 is a great Heli but if you are after a 550 size beast of a Heli then I would go for the goblin570 on 12s
If low down smack is your thing it's awesome at 2600 rpm

Man.. I really love the look of the 570... But, I cant justify spending the money on new lipos just yet... what size 6S does it use in series?

How much would a nicely equipped one come out to if I need everything including a FBL controller... probably not Under $1000 like the dominator, huh....

Hence the name, Smakmeharder! What an lovely profile pic to go along with it. Treat that Goblin like a bad girl

Im thinking of returning the dominator and saving another grand to get the Gobby

Just flew it on Phoenix sim and it flies better than the 550E 3G by FAR

I can tic toc faster in it thats for sure.....

Do you all govern your electric motors? Im thinking I need to pick up another Vbar silverline (Really regretting selling all my stuff off!!!!!!)

@helladies , the Trex550L would be a great machine, and one third the cost, unless you have 1000's of flights like @3dmick and @smakmeharder and can really smak the shiz out out it , I'd go the rexy, you could by 2 full kits and a heap of batteries for the price of a G570 (with no batteries), just my thoughts.
