Align's Gpro Fbl Unit - Is It A Vbar In Disguise?

After looking at the GPro android app, I'm picking the new Align GPro has a VBar in it. All of the setup options and parameters are the same as the VStabi options, and the default settings are close to the same, as well. The range of the settings seems to be the same, which sees 120 as the top setting for a lot of options.

Most advanced settings are there. The only things missing seems to be, Paddle simulation, Optimize, Auto trim, and bank switching. Also, the governor is Nitro only. I'd certainly miss not having tail optimize, but I understand you don't get this unless you have the pro firmware in the VBar, anyway.

I understand that some of Align's team pilots have been switching their 3GX's for VBar's, when not at an Align event. Perhaps this has finally convinced Align to go the way of the VBar, like Gaui. One good thing about Gaui's VBar is that there is now a path to Pro firmware, if you are prepared to pay for it, but there wasn't to start with.

Here's one to consider... has Align made a deal with Mikado, or are they using a VBar clone manufacturer???

One can always pull the thing apart and peek inside to see if its the same.

If it is the same thing under the bonnet, it would have to be done under an OEM license, otherwise, there would first be a settlement negotiation, and if that fails, lawsuit.

It's not Spartan. The setup is near identical to a VBar. Spartan has a very different setup process and options. Also the Spartan uses a datapod to set it up.

Yes, if I could see the main processor, I could confirm that it is a VBar. The VBar uses a special 16 bit digital signal processor, made by Freescale.

I've been hoping for a long time that Align would produce a good FBL unit. A pity it's taken so long, but here's hoping this is the one.

I wonder if it has an auto trim feature...

Video of the GPro PC app, by chrisdriving (note the video's title):

If I try to run the PC app on my WinXP machine, it crashes before anything is displayed. I have the latest version from Align's site and the latest .NET drivers.

From what I'm reading it's happening on other version of Windows, as well. Also Align's site says that it should work on XP.

XP is still a great operating system and just because Microsoft no longer supports it makes no difference, to me. Sure some apps won't work on it eventually, but most will keep supporting it for a long time to come, as there are still a lot of PC's out there using it.

+1. Vista was a step backwards. Windows 7 wasn't bad, and Windows 8, what were they thinking! I heard someone say the other day "if you want to upgrade windows 8, install windows 7...". :D

The biggest mistake Microsoft make was not doing an upgrade path from XP to Windows 7. You had to do a fresh install and start from scratch.

yeah exactly, I used to have a PC for each operating system but got rid of 95 and xp ( dunno why) now have a laptop with 8 just because that's what it came with a desktop with 7 (mainly used) and a desktop with 97 that's never used (planned upgrade to xp) love all the windows and each have their own quirks. if you wanna upgraded at all just install windows 7 Lol! even on a Mac :D

I wont run XP anymore, if there are no security updates for it, its only a matter of time before you are compromised and you are hacked to the waazoo,,,,

no one will write hacks for it, there's only a tiny percentage of the population still using XP
